The Gordon College Women's Basketball team traveled to Boston this evening to take on the Rams of Suffolk University once again. Despite a strong first quarter, the Scots were unable to hold off their opponent and dropped the game 57-66.
Gabriella DeComo led the charge for the Rams with 18 points, backed by a double double from Emily Welling, who had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Senior
Abby Vampatella led the game with 21 points and four steals.
Caroline Sikkink had 16 of her own on the board, and nine rebounds alongside junior
Hannah Vincent, who grabbed nine rebounds as well.
How it Happened
- Serianna Anderson struck first with a three pointer off of Sikkink's defensive rebound just a minute into the first quarter.
- An offensive rebound and put-back for Vampatella gave her the momentum to hit a three 30 seconds later, putting the Scots up by eight.
- The Rams went on a ten point run to open up the second, until freshman Cara Andreotti ended their streak with a three pointer to tie it up midway through the frame.
- Another three from Andreotti put the Scots up by one with 37 seconds left before the break, until a pair of free throws gave Suffolk the edge going into halftime.
- The Rams came out strong in the third quarter, going on a 13-point run while the Scots remained scoreless until Anderson hit a three and a pair of free throws with 4:31 on the clock to make it a 40-32 game in favor of Suffolk.
- A jumper from Vampatella with 30 seconds left cut the Rams' lead to just three going into the final quarter.
- Despite Vampatella's impressive fourth quarter, scoring almost half of her 21 points, the Scots could not close the gap in the last ten minutes as Suffolk took the eventual nine-point win.
