Scots Split CCC Matchup With Rams

Returning to the diamond this afternoon, Gordon College Softball welcomed the Rams of Suffolk University in the Fighting Scots' first Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) contest. The Fighting Scots took game one by a score of 4-3 before falling to the visitors by a score of 10-4 in the night cap.

Game One
  • A Ram miscue in the home half of the first extended the inning, allowing Ariana Ramsaran to belt a homer over the center field fence knocking in teammate Lily Rivera for a two-run homerun to take the 2-0 lead.
  • With two outs in the bottom of the second, Laura Bieren and Rivera roped back to back singles, driving in a run a piece to widen the Scots' lead to four runs.
  • Neither side was able to make it around the bases until the Rams scored three in the top of the fifth, making it a one-run ball game.
  • However, that was the closest the Rams would get as the Scots secured the 4-3 victory.
Game Two
  • Coming out hungry in game two, Suffolk's Leina Belog launched a grand slam clearing fence to jump out to a 4-0 lead. One batter later, Brooke Cloak wanted to get in on the hit parade and hit a double to right center putting herself in scoring position. Teammate Hailey Cockroft singled to right, bringing Cloak home to extend their lead to five.
  • Leading off the bottom of the first, Mara Little's patience earned her a walk before Bieren perfectly placed a sacrifice bunt to move her into scoring position. Rivera took it from there, singling up the middle to bring Little home for Gordon's first score of game two. The Scots were able to tack on another due to confusion on the Rams' defense to make it 5-2.
  • In the top of the fourth, Suffolk added four more runs off of three hits to go up, 9-2.
  • Rivera kept her bat hot, hitting the Scots' second homer of the day to bring the score to 9-3. However, Suffolk answered back in the top of the sixth with another run to keep it a seven-run game.
  • Not going down without a fight, the Scots rallied to add another to the scoreboard, but it wasn't enough as Suffolk came out with the 10-4 win.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Next up for the Fighting Scots is a doubleheader against Nichols College on Friday, April 2 with first pitch at 12 p.m. in Dudley, Massachusetts.
  • Mara Little had a career-high four strikeouts in game one.
  • Bella Runcie and Emily Harms each recorded their first collegiate hit.
