How It Happened
- The Scots came out of the gates quickly, as Sikkink hit a layup in the opening seconds. Gordon then followed that up on the defensive end as the Scots forced a shot clock violation on the Colonels.
- Curry found their offensive rhythm in the second quarter but Gordon had the advantage, leading by nine points at the half.
- The second half started off strong for Gordon with a three-pointer from senior Megan Hasty.
- Sikkink had back-to-back steals which converted to another four points off a jumper and free throws with 3:24 left in the third.
- By the end of the third, Gordon extended their lead to 25, capped off of by a steal and layup from Andreotti with two seconds left on the clock.
- It was déjà vu for the Colonels as Hasty again hit a jumper from beyond the arc to open up the final frame. Williams gave the Scots their biggest lead of the game (34) after knocking in a layup with just over four minutes to play.
- Curry continued to fight, scoring seven points in the final two minutes, but it wasn't enough as the Scots won the game 73-43.
Beyond The Box Score
- The Scots' 17 team steals today marks a 2021 season high.
- Megan Hasty and Cara Andreotti each booked career-highs with Hasty scoring 12 points and Andreotti netting 11 points.
- Williams' 14 rebounds was not only a game-high, but also her career high.
- Said Head Coach Carter Shaw: "I was really happy with how well we defended in this game. We set the tone in the first few minutes by creating turnovers, getting steals and being active on the boards. It was clear our defensive energy was a tremendous catalyst for the other phases of the game. It led us to a focused offensive effort where we assisted on over half of our baskets and consistently got to the FT line. It was nice having five players get double digits in scoring — Abby and Megan's offensive efficiency was outstanding and the scoring and rebounding punch coming from our freshmen is exciting."
