Scots Clip Gulls, 5-4

Box Score In a midweek non-conference matchup today at the South Campus Courts, the Gordon College Men's Tennis team edged the Endicott College Gulls by a score of 5-4. With the win the Fighting Scots improve to 5-2 on the season. 

The Scots quickly found themselves down, 1-0 after the Gulls earned an 8-3 victory in No. 1 doubles. However, the Scots would fight back, as Matt McEathron and Alex Ryzi paired up to win No. 3 doubles, 8-4 before Richard Ryzi and Mark Noschese bested their counterparts in a thrilling back and forth match, 8-7. 

Carrying the the slight edge heading into singles play, Gordon's McEathron made quick work in the No. 5 slot by taking down EC's Julian Coyle, 6-2, 6-1. R. Ryzi made it two singles win in a row for the Scots as the senior secured the victory in No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-2. Trying to keep the match in reach, Endicott got their own consecutive wins in the No. 2 and No. 1 to remain in the hunt but trailing, 4-3. Sophomore, A. Ryzi sealed the deal for the Fighting Scots with the 7-5, 6-3 clincher in No. 6 singles to give Gordon the eventual 5-4 victory.

The Scots and Gulls duel once again on Saturday, April 17 at the Brigham Athletic Complex at 11 a.m. in conference play.
