Scots And Leopards Split In Sunday CCC Matchup

Gordon College Softball welcomed the Wentworth Institute of Technology Leopards this afternoon where the visitors took game one 11-10 while the Fighting Scots battled back to take game two by a score of 4-3.

Game One
  • Wentworth got on the board first with a two hit, one run first inning. However, the Scots quickly answered back and then some as Arianna Ramsaran singled to center field to score Karissa Hatchell to tie it up at 1-1. Two batters later, Laura Bieren singled to right field to score Ramsaran to make it a 2-1 ball game.
  • After three consecutive singles in the home half of the second, Lily Rivera hit a sacrifice fly to center to score another for Gordon. Two more RBI singles by Kristen Brown and Bieren gave the Scots the 5-1 lead.
  • The Leopards roared back in the top of the third, connecting on five hits to score five runs and go on top, 7-5. An inning later, the visitors scored three more times to double up the Scots, 10-5.
  • Continuing to chip away, Gordon platted two more runners in the home half of the fifth to cut the deficit to three runs.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Mara Little ripped a two-RBI double down the left field line to make it 10-9. Next up was Rivera who tied it up with a single again down the left side to score Little and lock it up at 10-all.
  • A lead-off single in the top of the seventh came around to score on a drop third strike to give Wentworth the one-run lead and eventual win.
Game Two
  • Just like in game one, Wentworth drew first blood, but the Scots evened out the score in the home half of the first to make it 1-1.
  • A solo shot from Bieren gave Gordon the narrow lead in the bottom of the second.
  • It was a pitcher's duel for the next four innings, as Brown and Erin Hancock were workhorses for their teams. Wentworth hit a double in the top fo the fifth to score two teammates and go on top, 3-2.
  • Ramsaran made her way to second thanks to a fielding error by the right fielder to lead off the bottom of the sixth. The Scots took advantage as Brown moved Ramsaran to third before Bieren hit a sacrifice fly to deep center field to score Ramsaran and tie it up at 3-all.
  • Gabby Hunt singled down the left field line to keep the inning alive, then two nearly identical hits to down the right field line from Emma Dubois and Emily Harms were able to bring Hunt home to take the lead and eventual 4-3 W.
