Game Recap: Baseball |

Wentworth Takes Two From Gordon

For their second Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) duel, Gordon College Baseball suffered a pair of setbacks as Wentworth snagged a 3-1 win in the first game before taking an 11-3 game two victory. The Leopards earn their first wins in CCC play while the Fighting Scots even out at 2-2 in league action.

Game One
  • Wentworth went back to the basics in the top of the first, using the small ball to move Aidan French into scoring position. Their strategy paid off as French came around to score off of an RBI single up the middle off the bat of teammate Kyle Desjardins.
  • In the home half of the second, Patrick Tevenan looked as if he gave his squad some energy after launching a one-out double to the fence, but the junior was stranded, keeping it a 1-0 game.
  • Leading 2-0 in the fourth, Hunter Routhier singled up the middle to score Patrick Seigh to cut WIT's lead in half.
  • The visitors added another tally in the top of the sixth to go up 3-1 and secure the eventual two-run victory.
  • Joe Pedulla went the distance for the Scots surrendering zero earned runs while striking out seven.
Game Two
  • The Scots seemed to bounce back at the start of the night cap, as Mark Gadaleta sat the Leopards down in order in the top of the first.
  • In the bottom of the second, Cole Winkelman grounded out to the second basemen to bring home Evan Paquette for the first run of the game. Jaylen Coyne-Martinez followed that up with an RBI single through the right side to plate Andrew Hartman to take a 2-0 edge.
  • Neither dugout was able to string enough hits together to cross the plate again until the Leopards put up a six spot in the top of the fifth, to triple up the Scots, 6-2.
  • The sixth inning was a mirror image of each other as both the Scots and Leopards added another run to the scoreboard.
  • Wentworth closed out the nine inning night cap with four more runs to take game two by a score of 11-3 and complete the sweep.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Gordon and Wentworth take the field again tomorrow at Libby Field in Weymouth, Mass. with a double header starting at 12 p.m.
  • Joe Pedulla has now pitched two complete games in a row.
