Nor’easters Storm To Senior Day Sweep Over Scots

Gordon College Softball hosted the University of New England Nor'easters today in a Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup. The Nor'easters edged the Fighting Scots in game one (4-3) in extra innings before taking game two by a score of 7-1.

Game One
  • With two on and one out, Arianna Ramsaran singled up the middle to score classmate Karissa Hatchell to give the Fighting Scots a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Then, in the top of the second, UNE tied it up with an RBI groundout.
  • The Scots used aggressive base running and grit to keep the third inning alive as Laura Bieren wisely ran to first on a strikeout, causing an errant throw from the UNE catcher that reached the outfield. Mara Little was able to take advantage of the miscue and score to make it 2-1. Kristen Brown singled up the middle and ended up on third due to a center fielder bobble which allowed Bieren to cross the plate and extend the lead 3-1.
  • Neither side added another run until UNE's Taylor Depot hit a 2 RBI double to right center to tie it up at 3-3 in the top of the seventh.
  • UNE tacked on their fourth run from a sacrifice fly in extras to secure the 4-3 victory in eight innings.
Game Two
  • Hot off their late comeback in game one, UNE scored four runs in the top half of the first to take an early 4-0 lead.
  • Hatchell led off the home half of the first with a single up the middle and later scored on a Bieren single through the left side to cut the deficit to three.
  • The next five innings turned into a back and forth pitcher's duel with Brown surrounding only three hits until the seventh where UNE used three hits to score three runs to widen the gap to 7-1 and take the eventual victory.
