Gordon Rains On UNE's Parade With CCC Sweep

In an early morning doubleheader today in Biddeford, Maine, Gordon College Softball swept the University of New England Nor'easters by a score of 2-1 and 8-1.

Game One
  • In the bottom of the second, Gabby Hunt knocked in teammate Arianna Ramsaran with a single up the middle to put Gordon on top, 1-0.
  • The Scots' defense, led by Mara Little in the circle, kept UNE off the board for four-straight innings.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, the Nor'easters' Taylor Depot hit a double to put herself in scoring position before a walk and a double steal put runners on second and third. Grace Tutt stepped up to the plate to drill a liner down the third base side to score Depot and knot the score up at 1-1.
  • Hunt again put her bat on the ball to lead off the visitor half of the seventh with a single up the middle. Next up was Emma Dubois who did her job as the junior executed a sacrifice bunt to move Hunt to second. Down to their last out, senior Karissa Hatchell sent the ball right back up the middle, allowing Hunt to cross the plate to regain the lead.
  • Little allowed only one hit in UNE's final at bats to give the Scots the 2-1 victory. The sophomore pitcher went the distance, allowing only one run.
Game Two
  • With one on and one out, starting pitcher Kristen Brown stepped up to the dish and sky-rocketed a two-run blast down the left field line to put Gordon up, 2-0.
  • There was something in the air in the bottom of the third as Gordon hit three straight singles up the middle, resulting in two more runs to extend their lead to 4-0.
  • Brown was a headache for the Nor'easters in the circle, keeping UNE hitless for the next three innings.
  • After a Little walk to start things off in the top of the seventh, Lily Rivera bunted her way on to put runners at first and second with no outs. Ramsaran doubled to left center to bring Rivera and Little home and widen the gap to six runs. A sacrifice fly from Brown and a single from Hunt put two more on the board for the Scots to take a comfortable 8-0 lead heading into UNE's final at bats.
  • UNE's Depot continued to stay hot, leading off the inning with a triple and later came around to score but that was all UNE could muster up as Gordon walked away with an 8-1 and overall sweep of the Nor'easters.
  • In 7.0 innings of work, Brown only surrendered four hits and didn't allow any free passes.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Gordon and UNE hit the diamond again on Wednesday, April 28 in Wenham for a 2:30 p.m. start.
