How It Happened
- The Fighting Scots raced out to a commanding 12-5 lead in the first frame, forcing WNE to call a timeout. WNE was able to stop the bleeding coming out of the timeout to score their sixth point of the set but the Scots came right back to lead 16-6. With Gordon leading 22-7, WNE scored five straight points to cut the deficit to 10, but the Scots already had the first set in the bag taking a 25-13 win.Â
- A back and forth game was the theme early in the second set with Nilan giving Gordon a 6-5 edge early. However, the Golden Bears began to buckle down, going on an 8-1 run to go on top 13-7. WNE widened the gap to nine but two straight kills and a block by Nilan put the Scots within four, but it was not enough as WNE closed it out on a 7-2 scoring spree to take the 25-16 win.
- Gordon found their groove in the third set with a 12-8 lead that caused WNE to call a timeout to regroup. The timeout worked this time as WNE retook the lead (14-12). The Scots saw themselves down 19-14 and climbed right back into it coming within one point of their opponents at 20-19. After a WNE timeout, each side battled point for point until WNE was the first to reach 25 (25-22).
- WNE took the lead early and never looked back, winning the fourth frame by a score of 25-11 and overall 3-1 victory.Â
