Nichols Takes Both From Gordon In Midweek Matchup

Traveling to Dudley, Massachusetts today, Gordon College Softball was defeated by their hosts Nichols College for the final double header of their 2021 series.

Game One

  • Both teams got off to a fast start in the first, scoring one run each. The Scots got rolling when Ari Ramsaran rocketed a single up the middle for the first run of the game. Although the Bison quickly answered back with a stand up double powered by c. Callahan scoring teammate Sam Kostek to put the score at an even 1-1.
  • The Fighting Scots decided to break the tie in the third with a gap shot single from Kristen Brown allowing Lily Rivera and Mara Little to cross the plate. Another run was tacked on with a perfectly placed single through the left side from freshman Kaelie Forman.
  • The Bison were determined to cut the Scots' lead when Katrina Valeri traded a ground out for an RBI bringing the score to 4-2 in favor of the Scots.
  • Both teams kept scavenging for hits in the remaining innings, however neither team was able to cross the plate until the seventh. The Scots' bats started to come alive with another powerful single from Ramsaran bringing in teammate Rivera. A Gabby Hunt double to deep left center brought in Ramsaran resulting in a four run lead for the Scots. The hot bat of Forman brought another runner home.
  • The Scots continued to crush the ball without a single batter getting out until they led the game 9-2. However, those insurance runs were not enough as the Bison fought back ruthlessly one hit after another to ultimately take the game 10-9 in the bottom of the seventh.
Game Two
  • After a scoreless first inning, the Bison were able to plate one run in the home half of the second thanks to an RBI groundout from Mackenzie Bourgault.
  • It wasn't long before the Scots locked it up, as Ramsaran hit a deep shot to center for a sacrifice fly to score Little to make it a 1-1 ball game.
  • The score remained until Colleen Callahan connected for an RBI single to right to put the Bison on top once again.
  • In the bottom half of the sixth, Nichols was able to score two more runs off of three hits to go up, 4-1 and secure the eventual three-run win to sweep the Scots.
Beyond The Box Score
  • The Fighting Scots continue their road stint on Saturday, April 10 as they travel down the road to Beverly to face the Endicott College Gulls at 12 p.m.
