Scots Use 17 Goal First Half To Defeat Leopards In CCC Play

Box Score Gordon College Women's Lacrosse ventured into Boston tonight to face the Wentworth Institute Leopards in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play. The Fighting Scots used a 17 goal first half to propel them to a 24-20 victory. Gordon improves to 4-3 on the season and 3-1 in league action.

For the Scots, Abigail Mansfield netted a team-high seven goals, while Allison Mead, Lena Larson, and Katelyn Dyer each recorded five goals. Annabel Christenson and Rebecca Resnick combined for 11 saves.

How It Happened
  • Within the first 30 seconds of the game, Wentworth's Olivia Murray put the Leopards on the board, 1-0. Answering back less than a minute later, Larson ripped in the equalizer for her 20th goal of the season. 
  • Both sides traded goals for the next ten minutes before the Fighting Scots went on a 5-0 run to double up their hosts, 10-5 with just over 13 minutes remaining in the first half.
  • Wentworth was able to score three times to close out the half but the Scots more than doubled that in the remaining minutes to take a commanding 17-8 lead at the break.
  • Coming out of the half, WIT scored two quick goals, but the Scots retaliated with two goals from Mansfield to maintain the nine-goal lead.
  • With 7:18 left in regulation, the Leopards netted four straight goals to come within three. Dyer broke up the threat with her fifth goal of the evening at the 5:05 mark to give Gordon a four goal cushion. Each side was able to net one more goal apiece, but the Fighting Scots came out with the 24-20 W.

Beyond The Box Score
  • Allison Mead recorded five goals as well as a pair of assists in her collegiate debut.
  • Gordon welcomes the Western New England Golden Bears on Saturday, April 10 for a 4 p.m. start at the Brigham Athletic Complex.
