How It Happened
- WNE stormed out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first set before the Scots began to settle down and began to chip away. The Fighting Scots battled each point, coming withing a single point six different times before even reaching the midway point. A Valerie Nilan kill gave Gordon their first lead of the afternoon (14-13) but WNE used a Gordon service error to knot the game up at 14-all. Gordon began to pull away after the stalemate and took an 18-14 lead which forced the visitors to call a timeout to attempt to break up Gordon's momentum. The Scots continued to ball out, forcing WNE to use their final timeout. WNE's second timeout iced the Scots briefly, allowing WNE to tally two more points, but the Scots closed it out and took the 25-18 win.
- The second set began identical to the first with a 4-0 lead but this time it was in Gordon's favor. The visitors locked it up at 8-8 then 11-11 before WNE went on top, 13-11. A Gordon timeout allowed the blue and white to regroup and regain the lead (15-14). The score was tied three more times as each side was not backing down. Locked up at 22-22, Gordon called their final timeout and was able to force a couple WNE errors before Eden Bailey smashed down a kill to win, 25-22.
- The first tie game of the third frame was not until 9-9. The Scots went on an 8-1 run to break it open leading 17-10. WNE came back within four but back-to-back Robinson service aces gave the Scots a seven-point cushion (22-15). After a Gergins ace to make it 24-18, WNE called a timeout and scored three straight points to cut the deficit to three. A WNE service error gave Gordon their 25th point and the 3-0 victory.
