Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Jones, Di Rico Propel Scots Past Lions

Hosting Eastern Nazarene College for their home opener, Gordon College Women's Soccer triumphed over the Lions in this evening's matchup. The Scots ruled the field throughout the duel, firing off a total of seven goals, shutting out the Lions 7-0.

How It Happened

  • The Scots came out with a bang, aggressively shooting early and often in the half. Their tenacious offense paid off when Calla Ashley netted her second goal of the season bringing Gordon to an early 1-0 lead. The Fighting Scots continued to dictate the rest of the half, getting eleven shots in before transfer, Shelby Jones skillfully placed her first goal of the night past the Lions' keeper with three minutes left, ending the half 2-0.
  • Eager to score again, Jones netted another just two minutes after the break. Five minutes later Jones booked her first collegiate hat-trick with a shot just below the crossbar to give the Scots a 4-0 edge.
  • Freshman, Kristi Di Rico wanted in on the fun, finding the back of the net at minute thirteen to lock in her first goal as a Fighting Scot. Gordon persistently overpowered the Lions both defensively and offensively for the remainder of the contest.
  • Continuing to ride on their high, Di Rico one-touched the ball and found the back of the net just minutes after her first goal, lengthening the Scots' lead 6-0.
  • The Fighting Scots controlled the ball on the offensive end until the final whistle, with their defense preventing any shots from the Lions in the entire game. With a six goal lead, Gordon was still hungry for more as senior Casey Miller added another goal to the mix with less than two minutes on the clock to finally secure the victory 7-0.
