Box Score 2 Traveling to Waterville, Maine this evening, Gordon College Volleyball dominated in a pair of matches at the Colby College Invitational. The Fighting Scots swept the competition, securing their first win of the night against Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) 3-1, followed up by a 3-0 shutout victory against the University of Maine Presque Isle (UMPI).
Gordon vs. MMA
- After dropping the first set 25-17, Gordon bounced back to put an end to the Mariners' only victory of the match by taking sets two, three, and four (25-17, 25-21, and 25-13).
Gordon vs. UMPI
- The Scots were hungry for every point from the start, securing the first tally with a signature kill from senior Jordan Shaduk to get Gordon rolling. However, after an ace from Valerie Nilan, the Owls began to claw their way back, tying the score at three all.Â
- After some back and forth, UMPI rattled off a five point streak, pulling ahead 10-7. The Fighting Scots retaliated with an elongated run to take the 14-10 edge. The Owls were able to get one point back, but little did they know it would be their last, after the Scots collected the remainder of the points taking the set 25-11.Â
- Shaduk struck first again in the second set, allowing the Scots to take the early lead. UMPI quickly came alive after a kill from Makayla Miskiwicz, which catalyzed a burst of points for the Owls, leading 15-6. Gordon was determined to fight back, tying up the set 16-16 shortly after the long run. The Scots and Owls vigorously battled for the remainder of the set but ultimately Gordon rose above, securing set number two 26-24.Â
- The Fighting Scots went on to command the third and final set, collecting three straight kills from Shaduk, Joey Keltner, and Macie Carroll. Gordon continued to overpower UMPI, ultimately winning the last set 25-11 after an ace from Alexa Quinones, locking in their second triumph of the night.
Beyond The Box ScoreÂ
- Freshman Joey Keltner booked a career high kill count with seven against UMPI.
- The Fighting continue competition at the invitational tomorrow, Saturday, September 11, when they play their hosts, Colby College, at 1 p.m.
