Vikings Blank Scots, 2-0

Box Score Welcoming the Salem State Vikings for their home-opener today at the Brigham Athletic Complex, Gordon College Field Hockey put up a fight throughout all four quarters but were ultimately defeated by the Vikings by a score of 2-0.

How It Happened
  • Both lineups challenged each other as there were only three shots combined at the end of the first quarter. It wasn't until five minutes into the second frame when the Vikings were able to place one in the back of the net.
  • Almost ten minutes later Salem took advantage of a penalty corner from Melanie Mason who fed Mackenzie Schmink, at the top of the arc for her first goal of the season extending their lead to 2-0. The Fighting Scots stayed aggressive as they were able to get two shots in before the last 30 seconds of the first half.
  • Gordon's ferocity bled into the second half of the game, striking the Viking's defense hard. Senior Cara Goudie led the attack by slinging three hard shots off her stick, contributing to the five total shots Gordon mustered up within the first seven minutes of the second half. Despite attacks, Gordon's defense held strong, keeping the visitors off the board any further.
  • Gordon claimed control of the rest of the clash and did not allow a single shot from the Vikings. However, the Scots were unable to break through the Vikings' defense as the visitors took home the victory over the Scots.

 Beyond The Box Score
  • The Scots hit the road Tuesday September 7 traveling to Plymouth State with the first touch scheduled for 4 p.m.
