Gulls Soar Over Scots At The Nest

After a short break, Gordon College Women's Basketball took a hop, skip and a jump over to Beverly, Massachusetts this afternoon to face off against Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) rivals Endicott College Gulls where the Fighting Scots were ultimately bested by their hosts, 69-51. With the loss, Gordon falls to 4-9 overall and 2-5 in conference. Meanwhile, the Gulls climb to 9-7 on the season and a dominant 6-3 record in the CCC.

Up and coming star Ami Rivera led the Scots with an impressive 20 points and six rebounds. Following up A. Rivera was her sister, Isabella Rivera, who chipped in 13 points for the Fighting Scots. In addition, Caleigh Williams did her job under the hoop as she recorded a season-high 17 rebounds in the conference match up.

For the hosts, Tara Laugeni fronted her squad to victory with a game-high 23 points in 22 minutes of play. Just behind her was freshman Sarah Dempsey with 22 points and 17 rebounds.

How It Happened
  • The Gulls quickly jumped out on top, securing an early 14 point lead before the Scots could add to their initial basket (16-2). With less than three minutes left of the first quarter, Gordon began to fireback, cutting the deficit to single digits after back to back baskets from Howe and I. Rivera before I. Rivera capitalized on a free throw to bring the score to 7-16. However, Endicott was quick to add to their advantage again thanks to a fast break from Olivia Duncan (7-20). With 13 ticks left in the first, A. Rivera mirrored her sister with a layup and a free throw to end the half 20-10.
  • To start the second quarter, both teams traded jumpers before A. Rivera hit a basket from downtown which was dished out by Cara Andreotti to keep the Scots in the game, 15-26. However, Endicott continued to challenge the Fighting Scots, eventually gaining a 17 point advantage to end the half, 38-21.
  • Coming back from the locker room, the Scots secured the first two baskets to come within 13 (25-38). Nevertheless, the Gulls continued to hold their comfortable margin, eventually taking their biggest lead of 25 (57-32) just before Gordon's A. Rivera hit a jumper in the paint to end the third 34-57.
  • After almost two minutes of scoreless play to open up the final quarter, I. Rivera took things into her own hands by capitalizing on a fast break (36-57). The Fighting Scots continued to fight back, but despite their best efforts the Gulls continued to power through, ultimately locking in the 69-51 win.
