Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Andreotti, Wynbeek Propel Scots To 58-48 Win Over Seahawks

Gordon College Women's Basketball ventured to Newport, Rhode Island this evening to square up against the Seahawks of Salve Regina University. After earning an early 10-point lead the Fighting Scots continued to control the ballgame, eventually taking the 58-48 win.

Cara Andreotti led the Fighting Scots to victory with a game-high 23 points including five three-pointers. Meanwhile, junior Madison Wynbeek hit the court hot today with 13 points and just as many boards. Following her up was classmate Serianna Anderson who contributed nine points while grabbing six rebounds.

For Salve, Morgan Shuey and Briana Neary each netted 13 points. Additionally, Ashley Rourke added eight points for the Seahawks.

How It Happened
  • The Scots came out on fire, immediately banging out a 10-point lead to start the game while holding the Seahawks to zero for the first three minutes. While Salve attempted to shrink the gap, Gordon remained strong to control the quarter, 15-9.
  • In the next period, the Fighting Scots continued to tack onto their lead as Andreotti hit a three at 9:23 to take back the double-digit lead (19-9). Salve pulled within three a pair of times in the middle of the quarter, but the blue and white continued to rebuild their lead, rolling into halftime on an 8-0 run and widening the margin to 14 points (36-22).
  • Coming out of the break feeling loose, the Seahawks let the ball fly, outscoring Gordon 17-6 to trail by only three points heading into the final 10 minutes of regulation.
  • Andreotti got things off to a positive start for Gordon with a shot from three-point land to swing the momentum back into the Scots' favor. However, Salve kept knocking at the door and made it a one possession game with 6:22 on the clock. Anderson answered right back with a layup of her own less than 20 ticks later before Wynbeek rattled in another layup to extend Gordon's edge to six points with 4:21 remaining. The home team made it a four-point game once again, but the Scots scored seven unanswered including five from the charity stripe to secure the 58-48 victory after flipping the script nearly identically in the fourth, as the Scots put up a total of 16 points compared to Salve's six.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Cara Andreotti's five three pointers marks the first time GCWB has hit five or more three's in a game since Brooke Dyson hit eight against Brandeis in 2018. Additionally, Andreotti's 23 points in a new career-high for the sophomore.
  • Madison Wynbeek has now booked a double-double in five games this season.
  • The Fighting Scots return to Kanas Court (weather permitting) on Saturday, January 29 to host the Golden Bears of Western New England at 1 p.m.
