Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Ashley, Bengtson's Second Half Magic Polished Off Bison, 2-1

Gordon College Women's Soccer traveled to Dudley, Massachusetts this afternoon for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) battle against the Nichols College Bison where the home team drew first blood, but it was the Fighting Scots who got the last say answering back with two goals to take the 2-1 victory. With the win the Scots improve to 7-4-3 overall and 2-3-2 in league action.

How It Happened
  • After a scoreless first half, the Scots came out hungry in the second and almost struck first as Calla Ashley slid in a cross from the left side to find teammate Kendra Wentling, but Nichols' Saige Frazier made a quick reacting save to keep the blue and white off the board.
  • Just over eight minutes later, the Bison's Maegan Roy lifted in a shot from 20 yards out that tucked into the upper 90 to give the Bison the early edge.
  • However, not to be outdone, 67 seconds later, Tia Fyden found the right foot of Ashley who ripped in a laser shot into the far right netting for the equalizer.
  • Less than a minute later, Nichols' Grace Killman tried to regain the lead but Emily Bengtson made a diving save to keep the score at 1-1.
  • After a Bison throw-in on their offensive end, McKenna Feller battled to gain possession and the senior did just that as she led Sophia Richardson who took the ball in stride up to Ashley who booted in her second goal in just 1:46 to put her squad on top, 2-1.
  • The Bison nearly knotted it up minutes later but Bengston continued to be a brick wall as the Fighting Scots earned a gritty 2-1 CCC victory.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Calla Ashley recorded her second two-goal game of the year.
  • Sophie Richardson and Tia Fyden each recorded their first collegiate assists in today's win.
  • Keeper Emily Bengtson six saves in a career-high against conference opponents.
  • The Fighting Scots return to their home turf on Saturday, October 22 to celebrate their seniors as they host the Suffolk Rams at 3:30 p.m. for another CCC matchup.
