Gordon College Women's Soccer invited the Suffolk University Rams to the Brigham Athletic Complex this morning for a conference showdown where the Fighting Scots' offense went off, scoring a trio of goals in the first 45 minutes of action before adding another to seal the 4-2 win.Â
For the Scots,
Kendra Wentling and
Ava Forbes-Smith scored a duo of goals a piece as well as an assist each.
Abbey Engle also contributed an assist in the dominant effort.Â
How It Happened
- Wentling got the Scots rolling right away as the junior sniped one to the bottom left corner after a stealthy feed from freshman Forbes-Smith to give Gordon an early one goal lead just 2:01 into the game. 15 and a half minutes later (17:32), Engle finessed a corner kick to find Wentling who doubled her tally by knocking the ball in past Suffolk's last line of defense. Unsatisfied with their two goal advantage, Forbes-Smith took the opportunity to dribble through the Ram defenders before drawing the keeper out and skillfully tapping the ball to the back of the net at the 30:55 mark.Â
- However, the Scots were unable to shutout Suffolk as they were able to sneak one in with a mere 1:49 left on the clock to head into the break, 3-1.
- The hot Wentling, Forbes-Smith duo struck once again in the second half as Wentling found Forbes-Smith who booked her second goal of the morning to give the Fighting Scots a commanding three-goal lead with 34:20 remaining in regulation.
- The Scots continued to hold their guests at bay until Suffolk shrunk their deficit to two at the 78:50 mark, but Gordon didn't let up, locking in the 4-2 conference win.Â
Beyond The Box Score
- Kendra Wentling recorded her first goals and assist of the season.
