Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 2 Hawks Narrowly Escape No. 7 Scots With Last Minute Goal

After winning the opening round of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Postseason Tournament, the No. 7 seed-Gordon College Men's Soccer traveled to Bristol, Rhode Island to take on the Roger Williams (RWU) Hawks who are ranked No. 2 in the league for the CCC Quarterfinals. The Fighting Scots battled back to knot the score up in the final minutes of the second half but the Hawks got the go ahead tally with 60 seconds left to secure the 3-2 win over the Scots.

How It Happened
  • The Hawks drew first blood after RWU's Justin Horvath found the back of the net in the ninth minute to put the home team up, 1-0 as the home team held onto that lead going into halftime.
  • Then, in the 81st minute, the Hawks extended their advantage to two after Javi Beltran knocked one in thanks to a pass from Matt Bagley.
  • Despite 10 minutes left in regulation, the Fighting Scots continued to push and after a Hawk foul, Benny Simpson found found Cole Levis who ripped in a shot past the keeper to cut the deficit in half.
  • Gordon continued to put their foot on the gas, putting RWU on their heels and just over eight minutes later, Casey Torres netted the equalizer to make it a 2-2 game with a minute and a half to go in regulation.
  • However, with 60 ticks remaining, RWU's Beltran ripped in a shot in the side netting to give his squad the lead and eventual narrow 3-2 victory.
