Gordon College Women's Soccer took a break from Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play this afternoon, hosting the Castleton University Spartans. After 73 minutes of scoreless action,
Alexa Weindorf found the back of the net for the Fighting Scots, grabbing the first and only goal of the game to secure the 1-0 narrow victory.
How It Happened
- Castleton was able to get the first shot off after 3:19 of action, missing left. Within the same minute, Gordon's Weindorf was inches away from getting the Fighting Scots on the board after heading a perfect cross from teammate Sarah Sierzenga placing it just over the crossbar. Both squads alternated possessions for the remainder of the half, while Castleton out shot the Scots 7-3 but neither team was able to penetrate, keeping the score locked up at 0-0.
- Coming back from the break, the Scots were hungry for a goal as Calla Ashley attempted to capitalize on another corner kick just two minutes into the second, barely missing wide of the net. The Fighting Scots pounded the net five more times before Taylor Talesnick placed a corner kick in front of the net where Weindorf finished it off to record the go-ahead goal with 16:04 remaining on the clock. The Spartans attempted to even out the score with a corner kick in the final 30 seconds, but the Scots put an end to their efforts, clearing the ball with ease to seal their sixth win of the season.
