Gordon College Women's Basketball welcomed the No. 9 ranked Amherst College Mammoths to Kanas Court this evening where the visitors defeated the Fighting Scots, 52-41.

For the Fighting Scots, Madison Wynbeek nearly booked a double-double as the senior had 14 points and nine rebounds, while Ami Rivera chipped in nine points in the effort. 

Amherst's Kori Barach had 15 points, Maya Cwalina netted 12 points, and Reeya Patel had nine in the win.

How It Happened

• Amherst knocked in one from the charity stripe 30 seconds into the first quarter, but it was all Fighting Scots from there on out as Wynbeek led the way with six straight points en route to a commanding 15-8 advantage after one.
• The visitors were able to tie the game at 17-all in the opening minutes, but the blue and white answered right back to lock it up at 19 and 21 before taking the upper hand after a Serianna Anderson jumper (24-23) with 1:37 left until the break. However, Cwalina hit a jumper with just over a minute to go to give Amherst the one-point edge at halftime.
• Gordon came out of the break strong, outscoring the visitors 7-2, but Amherst closed out the third on a 10-0 run to lead 39-31 going into the fourth.
• The Scots kept it close in the fourth, but Amherst held onto their slight edge to come away with the 11-point victory over the Scots.

• Madison Wynbeek has scored 14 or more points in two out of the three games she has played this season.
• The Fighting Scots return to action on Saturday, November 19 as they travel to Springfield, Mass. to face Springfield at 1 p.m.
