Wright Garners Third Team All-Region Honors

2022 UNITED SOCCER COACHES NCAA DIVISION III MEN'S ALL-REGIONAL TEAM SELECTIONS

As announced by the United Soccer Coaches, Gordon College Men's Soccer's exceptional student-athlete Benji Wright has earned a spot on the 2022 United States Soccer Coaches DIII Third Team All-Region team for his efforts on the field this past season.

In Region II, the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) made their presence known as more than a third of the student-athletes selected for First, Second and Third Teams were members of the CCC while three other Conference competitors joined Wright on the Third Team including Western New England's CCC Defensive Player of the Year, Sean O'Neill.

The sophomore guided the Fighting Scots to a 6-10-3 season overall and a near .500 record of 4-5 in conference play after leading his squad in goals with six including two game-winners in 944 minutes of action. Most notably against CCC rival Salve Regina, Wright lifted boosted the Scots over the Seahawks with a heart-pounding header to secure the 2-1 league win back on October 1. Additionally, the reliable forward also recorded an impressive shot on goal percentage of .423. After his best regular season as a Scot yet, doubling his goals from his freshman debut, Wright found himself on the All-CCC Second Team before being recognized for his efforts in the classroom after being selected to the 2022 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team.

While this is the fourth season under head coach Matt Horth where student-athletes have received All-Region honors, Wright is the eighth athlete to be garnered with this award which also marks the sophomore's first time being recognized by the United States Soccer Coaches. The most recent Scots to be honored with All-Region awards were Chase Gwynn, Luckson Dambo, Casey Torres, and Brody Veleber after a Championship 2021 season with Gwynn landing First Team honors and the rest of the Fighting Scots being named to the Second Team.
