Wynbeek, Lomonaco Pace Scots to 87-81 W Over Bison In Gritty CCC Contest

Gordon College Women's Basketball hosted the Nichols College Bison for their first Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) home battle on Kanas Court where the Fighting Scots came out triumphant with an 87-81 victory over the Bison to even out at 1-1 in league action.

For the Fighting Scots, Madison Wynbeek had a huge day with 32 points and 15 rebounds, rookie Hannah Lomonaco was not far behind with 21 points and 10 boards, while Ami Rivera tacked on 14 points and booked six rebounds in the win.

Nichols' Abrianna Vazquez registered 30 points and seven assists and Kiera Fernandes added 12 points while picking up seven boards.

How It Happened
  • The Bison came out of the gates with their high pressured defense and quick scoring offense en route to a 26-16 first quarter advantage.
  • Lomonaco set the tone in the opening seconds of the second frame as the freshman knocked in a layup while getting hit in the paint and executed the and one to make it a seven-point game. The Scots passed the rock around and continually found Wynbeek under the net who made a trio of layups within a minute span at the 8:16 mark. Midway through the quarter, Cheyann Tooman scored four points to flip the tables into Gordon's favor (32-31), but Nichols answered right back to regain the slim lead. A. Rivera knotted up the score at 34-all with a three-point play but the Bison were able to take a 44-41 advantage at the half.
  • A 10-2 run from the blue and white to kick off the third quarter to put the Scots back on top, 51-46 (7:10). The Bison however, began to chip away and made it a one-point game heading into the final 10 minutes of regulation.
  • Six lead changes was the name of the game in the fourth with the sixth coming off the hands of Wynbeek to give Gordon a 80-79 edge with just over two minutes to go in the frame. From there, Lomonaco iced it from the charity stripe in the final minute as the guard netted the final six points to secure the 87-81 W over the Bison.
