Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Wynbeek, A. Rivera Lead Scots To 72-42 Win Over Leopards

Gordon College Women's Basketball hit the road this morning, traveling to Boston where they squared up against the Wentworth Leopards. After securing an early lead in the first quarter, the Fighting Scots remained in the drivers seat, adding to their advantage throughout the matchup and eventually taking home the 72-42 win.

Madison Wynbeek fronted the Scots once again, this time with a game-high 23 points in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) duel. Not far behind her was rookie Ami Rivera who contributed 21 points as well as booking five rebounds and just as many steals, while Isabella Rivera netted 12 points for the Fighting Scots.

For the hosts, Nattaly David racked up 14 points in 27 minutes of play, followed by Maddy Foster who contributed seven points for the Leopards.

How It Happened
  • The Scots made their presence known on the court right away thanks to a Wynbeek layup in the opening seconds to go up 2-0. Next, Gordon went on to immediately gain an 11-point lead within the first three minutes of action (13-2). Wentworth attempted to cut the deficit, eventually coming within single-digits (13-6), just before the Fighting Scots went on a 12-point shooting spree which was topped off by back to back threes from the Rivera sisters (23-6). However, the Leopards were able to shrink the Scots' lead to eleven before the buzzer sounded (23-12).
  • Entering the second quarter hungry for more, Gordon swiftly regained a more sizable lead until eventually going up 38-16 after A. Rivera sunk one from downtown. But the Leopards retaliated with a three of their own with 2:24 remaining on the clock. Before ending the half, Gordon's Serianna Anderson made sure to lock in the last points for her squad with a layup in the paint, dished out by Brynn Barnhard to give the Scots a 19-point advantage heading into the locker rooms.
  • Coming back from the half, Wentworth chipped away but were unable to break the Fighting Scots' vast advantage. At 4:16, Wentworth's David hit a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 12. However, the Scots showed no mercy, eventually ending the third 58-38 after a last second three-pointer from the hot hands of A. Rivera as she sunk her fifth three of the night.
  • Next, I. Rivera started off the last quarter for Gordon by sinking two from the charity stripe (60-38). In the remaining minutes of the game, the Fighting Scots didn't let up, scoring 12 more points while holding the Leopards to just four in the quarter to ultimately take the dominant 72-42 win.
