Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Nor'easters Roll Past Scots

Traveling to Biddeford, Maine this afternoon, Gordon College Women's Basketball battled the Nor'easters of the University of New England (UNE) in tonight's Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup where the Fighting Scots ultimately fell to their hosts, 37-81.

Fronting the Scots for the second game in a row were the Rivera sisters. Ami Rivera netted 15 points, while Isabella Rivera recorded eight. Next for Gordon was Michaela Kelly who contributed five points in just 12 minutes of action.

For the hosts, Abby Cavallaro led her team to victory with 24 points, followed by Jordyn Franzen who added 15 points for the Nor'easters as well as seven rebounds and dished out six assists.

How It Happened
  • Gordon's A. Rivera quickly got the Scots on the board with one from downtown in the opening minute of the game to go up 3-2. However, UNE fired back, scoring 32 points in the remaining nine minutes of the first while holding the Scots to six after closing out the quarter with a Cavallaro three (34-6).
  • The Scots defense fought hard in next quarter to hold the Nor'easters scoreless until 6:23 when UNE was able to extend their lead thanks to a three pointer from the hands of Franzen. The Fighting Scots attempted to cut the deficit but the Nor'easters kept their lead going into the half (47-14).
  • Coming back from the locker room, Gordon started to chip away but UNE continued to control the court for the remainder of the game, eventually taking the 81-37 win.
Beyond The Box Score
  • The Fighting Scots return to Kanas Court on Saturday February 19 for their final conference game against the Seahawks of Salve Regina where they will celebrate their senior Scot, Delaney McDonnell with a 1:00 p.m. tip-off.
