Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Scots Come From Behind Against Salve To Celebrate Delaney Day In Style, 65-53

Gordon College Women's Basketball welcomed the Salve Regina University Seahawks to Kanas Court this afternoon as they celebrated their lone senior, Delaney McDonnell. In their final regular-season Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) duel, the Fighting Scots put themselves in a postilion in the third quarter to take the lead in the fourth to eventually secure the 65-53 win.

Madison Wynbeek led the way for the Scots with 23 points and 16 rebounds, while both Ami and Isabella Rivera contributed 12 points towards the effort. Additionally, Serianna Anderson made her presence known with 10 points and 10 boards.

For the Seahawks, Amanda Folan booked 11 points while Ashley Rourke added nine points into the mix with 11 rebounds.

How It Happened
  • Anderson started the Fighting Scots off hot with one from downtown on the game's first play. Salve answered right back with a layup, but Gordon held onto their lead and netted back to back layups from Anderson and Wynbeek (7-2). It wasn't until 4:53 when Seahawks' Rourke sunk a three to give Salve their first lead, 12-11. The Scots attempted to get back on top, coming within one (14-15) thanks to another Anderson three with 1:47 left on the clock, but the Seahawks used the remaining time to tack onto their lead and head into the second frame with a 20-14 edge.
  • Gordon stepped back onto the court in the second, immediately firing, to cut the deficit to three (21-18) before Salve went on a seven-point run, which was eventually spoiled by a jumper from Gordon's A. Rivera with 5:49 on the clock. However, the Seahawks continued to make their shots, ending the half up 33-22.
  • Coming back from the break, the Fighting Scots quickly caught up to Salve, outscoring the Seahawks 10-1 for the first seven minutes of the quarter, but Salve was able to regain their double-digit lead by the end of the third (44-34).
  • The Fighting Scots started the final quarter with an eight-point shooting spree to cut the deficit to two (44-42). After allowing the Seahawks just one basket, the Scots tied it up 46-all thanks to an A. Rivera jumper at the 5:02 mark. However, Salve retaliated with one from behind the arc to reclaim their advantage (49-46) before the Scots grasped their second lead of the game after I. Rivera hit a layup to go up 50-49 with four minutes remaining. Gordon continued to tack onto their point total, 56-50 before the Seahawks started to crawl back, coming within three points after going 3-4 from the charity stripe. Moments after a Gordon timeout, senior Delaney McDonnell electrified the Scots with a layup after grabbing an offensive rebound to give Gordon a five-point lead with 1:03 left in regulation. The Fighting Scots continued to widen the gap thanks to hitting six of their seven freebies, before eventually taking the 65-53 come-from-behind win.
Beyond The Box Score
