Five Scots Net Double Figures In 27-Point Win Over Bison

Returning to Kanas Court this evening, Gordon College Women's Basketball hosted the Bison of Nichols College for their 13th Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup so far this season. After a neck and neck first quarter, the Fighting Scots gained a 10-point lead in the second which they would not relinquish, taking the eventual 94-67 win after a dominant fourth quarter. With the victory, the Scots improve to 7-12 overall and 5-8 in conference. Meanwhile, the Bison drop to 8-13 overall and 4-10 in the CCC.

For Gordon, Cara Andreotti paced the Scots with 32 points and dished out five assists to her fellow Scots. Meanwhile, Madison Wynbeek added to the fun with 25 points while grabbing 17 boards. Additionally, Serianna Anderson did her job by netting 13 points, collecting 15 rebounds, and dishing out five assists.

The visitors were led by Abrianna Vazquez who recorded 32 points for the Bison, as well as Summer Klein who contributed 13 points and nine rebounds in their efforts.

How It Happened
  • Andreotti got the Scots on the board with a layup early on, but the Bison's swift offense quickly struck back to pull ahead 5-2. Soon after, the Fighting Scots hit three baskets in a row to go up 10-5 just before Nichols' Klein sunk a three and followed it up with a layup to tie it 10-all. Just 13 seconds later, freshman Ami Rivera broke the tie with a classic layup in the paint (12-10). As the Fighting Scots continued to hold their edge, Nichols was not far behind, closing the gap multiple times before ending the first quarter 14-16 in favor of the Scots.
  • After 1:03 of scoreless play to open up the second, Andreotti netted one from downtown to extend Gordon's lead, 19-14. However, the Bison chipped away, eventually coming within one after a Klein layup (21-20). Hungry for a more comfortable lead, the Scots retaliated with back to back three-pointers from A. Rivera and Andreotti to gain a seven-point lead with just under five minutes to go in the half. Battling the aggressive Bison defense, the Fighting Scots continued to hit their shots, eventually going on an eight-point run to gain a 13-point lead (35-22). Nichols attempted to shrink the deficit, but the Scots held onto their double-digit lead, ending the half 40-30.
  • Entering the second half, the Bison immediately cut the Scots' lead to seven thanks to a three-pointer from Erin Cann (33-40). The Fighting Scots remained in control on the court until Nichols shrunk Gordon's lead to four at 5:08 (44-48). However, the Scots weren't satisfied and were energized to reclaim their lengthy lead, eventually ending the third 51-60 after Anderson closed out the period with two from the charity stripe.
  • Isabella Rivera made sure to secure the first point for the Fighting Scots in the fourth quarter as she capitalized on a free throw just before the visitors hit one from behind the arc to bring the score to 54-61. Then, just over two minutes later I. Rivera spearheaded a 10-3 run by the blue and white from a shot from three-point land. Continuing to find the bottom of the net, Gordon scored 10 straight points to take a 25-point lead with 3:13 on the clock before coming away with the 27-point victory over the Bison (94-67).
