Returning to action after their doubleheader got canceled yesterday, Gordon College Softball took on Thomas College Terriers as well as Wheaton College (Ill.) Thunder this evening. The Fighting Scots cruised through game one as they run-ruled the Terriers, 8-0 to end the game early after six. In the nightcap, the Scots battled to the end but were ultimately bested, 9-4.
Gordon vs. Thomas
- After working her way out of a pair of jams from the circle, Mara Little helped herself in the home half of the third, coming around to score the game's first run thanks to a Lily Rivera single to go up 1-0. Little held the Terriers to just one hit in the next three innings, meanwhile the Scots took care of business on the offensive side, leading 3-0 heading into the sixth.Â
- The Fighting Scots decided to end things early as they tacked on five more runs to their total after stringing together five hits. To cut the game short, L. Rivera booked another RBI single to bring in the walk-off run and seal the commanding 8-0 win.Â
Gordon vs. Wheaton
- Wheaton attacked early as they quickly gained the 2-0 lead in the first inning after capitalizing on a pair of hits. However, the following inning starting pitcher Sierra Ricci sat down every batter she faced to get the Scots back in the batters box to do some damage. With two outs, Karissa Hatchell got Gordon rolling with a walk, eventually scoring after a gap shot off of the hot bat of L. Rivera to make it a one run game (1-2).Â
- However, the Thunder immediately tacked onto their tally after to a three-run double to the left center fence from Olivia Nahorniak to extend Wheaton's lead, 5-1. Next, Gordon's Arianna Ramsaran led off the fourth by smacking a towering homerun over the right center fence to cut the Scots' deficit to three.Â
- The Thunder was able to answer back with a run of their own in the home half of the fourth as well as adding another in their next ups to head into the sixth, 7-2. Next, Wheaton put two more up on the board, which the Scots matched, however it wasn't enough, as the Thunder took the eventual 9-4 win.Â
