Game Recap: Softball |

Sharks Snatch Game One Before Game Two Gets Called Due To Darkness

Gordon College Softball hit the field for the first time after returning from their Spring Break trip, hosting the Simmons University Sharks this afternoon for their home opener where the visitors took game one by a score of 9-2 before capping off the night with a 4-4 tie in game two.

Game One
  • Both teams immediately came out swinging as Simmons started off the first with three runs before the Fighting Scots retaliated thanks to a powerful shot from Ami Rivera to bring home two runners.
  • From then on, the Sharks were able to cross the plate at least once in every inning until the seventh when Gordon's Sierra Ricci sat down three batters in a row.
  • Meanwhile, the Fighting Scots tacked on four hits throughout the remainder of the game, however it wasn't enough as they were ultimately bested, 9-2.
Game Two
  • The Sharks got ahead early once again, as they put a run up on the board in the first. But the reliable bat of Gordon's A. Rivera stayed hot with a double down the right field line to score two of her teammates. Not long after, Hannah Bouvier added to the scoring spree with a clutch single down the line to bring A. Rivera home and take the 3-1 edge.
  • After a quick second inning, Simmons tied up the ball game 3-all, however, the Fighting Scots got that run back after an Arianna Ramsaran doubled to the center field fence to knock in Gabby Hunt to go on top, 4-3.
  • Neither team was able to put a run up on the board in the following two innings until the Sharks played small ball in the top of the second to eventually plate the game-tying run. Mara Little lifted a deep fly ball to straight away center but the Simmons' outfielder was able to make an excellent defensive play to keep Little off the bases in the home half of the sixth.
  • Due to darkness, the game was called after the conclusion of the seventh inning, resulting in a 4-4 tie.
Beyond The Box Score
  • The Fighting Scots hit the road for a battle of the North Shore as they travel to Salem to take on Salem State for a doubleheader on Tuesday March 22 starting at 4 p.m.
