Scots Too Hot To Handle In Sweep Of Vikings

Gordon College Softball traveled to Salem this afternoon to square up against the Salem State Vikings for a non-conference doubleheader where the Fighting Scots blasted the Vikings out of the water and took home two wins, 8-5 and 14-3.

Game One
  • The Scots took advantage of their first ups, scoring first after an Arianna Ramsaran sacrifice fly brought in two runs. However, the Vikings loaded their cannons in the home half of the first, doubling up the Fighting Scots, 4-2. The next inning, both teams were able to tack on a run (3-5) before Gordon's Lily Rivera got the Scots going with a leadoff double to left field followed by a hit from Ramsaran and Karissa Hatchell just before Gabby Hunt sealed the go-ahead run with a towering double to give the Scots the narrow 6-5 edge.
  • Mara Little, helped herself out at the plate in the top of the fourth with a leadoff triple roped to center and eventually came around to score thanks to a base hit from Ami Rivera. After a walk, Hatchell continued the Scots' rally with another single to left field to bring home another run and give Gordon a more comfortable lead, 8-5. Little held the Vikings to just three hits in the remaining innings, ultimately locking in the 8-5 win for the Scots.
Game Two
  • The Fighting Scots wasted no time as they passed the bat around in the top of the first to produce eight runs off of eight hits before giving the Vikings a chance at the plate. Salem retaliated with two runs of their own, however that didn't stop the Scots as they went on to add to their lead during their next at bats thanks to a Hannah Bouvier double to the opposite field.
  • After a scoreless half inning from the Vikings, the Scots hit back to back doubles first off of the bat of L. Rivera to put her and her sister, A. Rivera, in scoring position. The next batter up, Mollie McCormack, drove in both Riveras after booking her first collegiate extra-base hit to bring the score to 11-2.
  • The Vikings were able to muster up another run in the third to come within eight, heading into the fourth. The Scots stayed hot as Bella Runcie and Isabella Rivera added to the hit parade before Gabby Bergstrom drove in another run after lacing one to center. Sierra Ricci and the rest of the Scots were able to keep the Vikings off the bases for the remainder of the game before eventually ending it early, 14-3.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Molly McCormack earned her first collegiate hit in game two.
  • The Scots booked a season-high total 29 hits this afternoon including 10 extra-base hits.
  • The Fighting Scots return to their home field on Saturday, March 26 for a doubleheader against Rivier starting at 12 p.m.
