Game Recap: Softball |

Scots End It Early Twice Against Rivier

Gordon College Softball returned to their home field this afternoon to square up against the Rivier University Raiders for their second non-conference doubleheader of the week. The Fighting Scots capped off their hot hitting week by run-ruling the Raiders twice, 13-2 in the first matchup before shutting out Rivier in the second, 9-0.

Game One
  • After a quick half-inning in the field, the Scots came out with a bang, immediately putting eight runs on the board after stringing together a whopping 10 hits. However, the Raiders answered back in the second with a single up the middle to bring in their first run of the game, 1-8.
  • The Fighting Scots held their seven-run lead until they added to it in the third thanks to an Ami Rivera shot to the right side to bring Mara Little home. The next batter up, Lily Rivera hit both of her sisters in after lining one up the middle to take the double-digit lead, 11-1. Arianna Ramsaran followed up her classmate with a towering double down the left field line to bring the last Rivera home.
  • After keeping the Raiders off the bases in the fourth, Gordon tacked on another run before ending it early in the fifth, 13-2.
Game Two
  • Both squads were held scoreless until the Scots' starting pitcher Sierra Ricci got Gordon's bats going after ripping a single down the left field line. A few batters later, Isabella Rivera drove in Gabby Hunt and Ricci to take the narrow 2-0 edge in the bottom of the third. Ramsaran kept the Fighting Scots rolling as her hard hit ball flustered the Raiders which the Scots capitalized on to score two more.
  • Ricci held Rivier to one hit in the next two innings before the Scots almost doubled their score after a trio of back to back singles from the Riveras followed by aggressive base running to head into the sixth, 7-0.
  • The Raiders were able to get a runner in scoring position in their final ups, however the Fighting Scots quickly sat them down to secure the shutout. Next, I. Rivera sealed the deal for the Scots in the bottom of the sixth after turning a single into an inside-the-park homer to score Little and herself and give Gordon their second merciless win of the day, 9-0.
Beyond The Box Score
  • The Scots have run-ruled their past three opponents in a row.
  • The Fighting Scots are back in action on Wednesday, March 30 when they host Plymouth State for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
