Scots Continue To Fire From All Cylinders In Twin Bill Sweep

Gordon College Softball welcomed the Panthers of Plymouth State (PSU) to their home field for a non-conference twin bill this afternoon, where the Fighting Scots lengthened their win streak to six after overpowering the Panthers, 9-3 in the firstĀ before ending it early in the nightcap with an 8-0 run-rule victory to secure the sweep.

Game One
  • After a scoreless first inning for both teams, the Scots got things going in the second when Lily Rivera put herself in scoring position the first at bat of the inning afterĀ Ā a monstrous double that hit the left field fence. The Fighting Scots were able to shut outĀ the Panthers until the fourth when Emily PicardĀ smacked one over the fence to give the Panthers the narrow 2-1 lead. However, the Scots immediately answered back with two runs of their own thanks to a two RBI single down the right field line from Emma Dubois to go back on top, 3-2.Ā
  • During their next ups, the Panthers were able to tie it up three-all after a two-hit inning in the top of the fifth.
  • The score remained at a standstill until the bottom of the sixth when the Fighting Scots finally busted it open, catalyzed by a two-run double whacked to right center by the hot bat of Dubois to go up, 5-3. The Scots continued to pass the bat around, scoring four more runs to triple up the Panthers, 9-3 heading into the seventh before right-hander Mara Little shut down the PSU batters to lock in Gordon's eighth win of the season.Ā
Game Two
  • Gordon didn't waste any time getting on the board as they made sure to secure an early 2-0 lead afterĀ Ami Rivera got the Fighting Scots rolling when sheĀ tripled to rightĀ scoringĀ her sister, Isabella Rivera. Two batters later, Karissa HatchellĀ drove in another run for the Scots after punching one through the right side.
  • The Fighting Scots went on to score six runs in the third after stringing together seven hits to bring the score to 8-0.
  • Starting pitcherĀ Sierra Ricci did her job in the circle for Gordon, keeping the Panthers hitless for the remainder of the game to secure the 8-0 win after five.Ā

Beyond The Box Score
  • The Scots have scored eight or more runs in the past six games.
  • Sierra Ricci registered a one-hit game in game two and tied her season-high five strikeouts.
  • The Fighting Scots return to the diamond this Friday, April 1 when they travel into Boston for their first conference doubleheader against the Suffolk Rams at 3 p.m.
