Gordon College Softball traveled across town to Beverly, Massachusetts this afternoon to square up against the Endicott College Gulls for their first Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup of the 2022 season. Endicott came out firing from all cylinders in game one to take the 10-0 win, however, the Fighting Scots came close to their first conference win in the second duel after tying it up 2-2 in the fourth before the Gulls barely edged the Scots, 4-2.
Game One
- Leadoff hitter, Keelin Spencer ignited Endicott's hot bats as she started the game off with a solo shot home run before her teammates kept their sticks alive to put three runs up on the board in the first. Despite the Scots' best efforts to score, the Gulls continued to challenge them both offensively and defensively as Endicott went on to extend their lead to 10-0 heading into the fifth.
- The Scots fought for another inning in their last at bats as freshman Hannah Bouvier led off with a double to right center, however it wasn't enough as the Fighting Scots were ultimately bested by their hosts, 10-0 after five innings.
Game Two
- The Gulls were able to score first again as they earned an early 2-0 lead in the first. However from then on, Mara Little held Endicott scoreless in the circle while rookie Ami Rivera got the Fighting Scots rolling in the batter's box with a laser of a double to right center to land herself in scoring position with one down. The next batter up, Lily Rivera, switched places with her sister after lacing an extra base hit to deep left field, securing the Scots' first run of the day. With two outs, senior Gabby Hunt punched one through the left side to bring home the tying run. With the momentum on their side, Little sat down the three batters she faced in the fourth to hold the score at two-all.
- It wasn't until the fifth when the Gulls busted the stalemate open after Taylor Chelak ripped a two-run single down the left field line to double their runs and take the 4-2 edge. The Fighting Scots attempted to close the gap in their next two at bats, however the Gulls took the eventual 4-2 narrow victory.
Beyond the Box Score
- Ami and Lily Rivera both recorded their seventh double of the season in game two this afternoon.
- The Scots have a quick turnaround as they continue conference play tomorrow, Sunday, April 3rd when they invite the Suffolk University Rams to their home field for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
