Game Recap: Softball |

Engineers, Corsairs Best Scots On First Day Of Spring Games

Gordon College Softball hit the field for the first time this season in Leesburg, Florida for their first double header at the Spring Games this morning. The Fighting Scots connected on 13 hits in the first game but were topped 10-6 by RPI before dropping a 6-0 decision to the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs in the second contest.

Gordon vs. RPI
  • RPI led off the top of the first with a single but the runner was quickly taken off the base paths after the second batter ripped a liner right back to pitcher Mara Little who sniped the hit and threw it to first for the double play. However, RPI extended the inning and scored a pair of runs to lead, 2-0.
  • With one on and one out, Lily Rivera roped a triple down the right field line, scoring teammate Little to put the Scots on the board. Next batter up, Arianna Ramsaran brought home L. Rivera to knot it up at 2-2 with a single of her own. Stepping up in the eighth spot, Emma DuBois hit a two-run RBI single right back up the middle to give her squad the 4-2 edge. The Scots tacked on their fifth and final run of the frame after Isabella Rivera beat out an infield hit to the short stop and went into the top of the second up, 5-2.
  • The Engineers orchestrated a 2-out rally after Gabby Comeau's double platted two runs for the visitors in the top of the second, making it a one run game.
  • Gordon's third consecutive single of the home half of the second gave the Scots their sixth tally of the day and widened the gap to two runs.
  • Both sides were held scoreless in the third before RPI exploded for a five-run forth inning that would ultimately seal the deal for the Engineers to take home the 10-6 win.
Gordon vs. UMass Dartmouth
  • The Corsairs were able get on the board first after capitalizing on a miscued blooper to bring in two runs and go on top 2-0 in the bottom of the first. L. Rivera and Karissa Hatchell started off the second for the Scots with back to back singles through the left side, however neither were able to cross the plate.
  • After two quick half innings, UMass Dartmouth's Hailey Lyons doubled up the middle to eventually score before the Fighting Scots quickly shut them down, limiting the visitors to adding just one run to their total (3-0).
  • The Fighting Scots started to get rolling in the top of the fifth thanks to singles from DuBois and I. Rivera, but were left stranded to keep Gordon off the board.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, the Corsairs were able to tack on two more runs after stringing four hits together to take a 5-0 lead going into the sixth. The Scots attempted to come back, however it wasn't enough as the Corsairs took the eventual 6-0 win.
  • Transfer pitcher Sierra Ricci went 6.0 inning for the blue and white, giving up only two earned runs.
