Last Scot Standing: Ricci Sparks Seventh Inning Magic With 6-5 Win

On the second day of the Spring Games, Gordon College Softball faced the Monmouth College Fighting Scots where they came away with an electrifying, come from behind 6-5 win to secure their first victory of the 2022 season. With the thrilling victory, head coach Megan Jenkerson '19 booked her first win at the helm.

How It Happened
  • After two scoreless innings, Monmouth was able to bring in the first run of the game thanks to a shot hit deep in the hole at short, scoring Mykenzie Kloess. After shutting down the next batter, the Fighting Scots retaliated with a run of their own after Lily Rivera powered a clutch hit up the middle to drive home Emily Peterson and knot it up, 1-1.
  • Starting pitcher, Mara Little, sat down the next six batters she faced as both teams were neck and neck until the fifth when Gordon busted out the hot bats as Arianna Ramsaran laced a liner through the right side to give the Scots the 2-1 advantage. Directly after, Gordon tacked on another insurance run thanks to an infield RBI from A. Rivera to go up, 3-1. The Scots didn't stop there, as Ramsaran was able to cross the plate after capitalizing on a wild pitch to bring the score to 4-1 going into the sixth.
  • However, Monmouth was able to tie it up again at 4-all thanks to a three-run double to right center. Monmouth was able to hold the Scots in the bottom of the sixth, and were able to break the tie and take the one-run lead before Gordon shut them down to head into the last frame, 5-4.
  • Ramsaran got the Fighting Scots going with a lead-off single to right before classmate Karissa Hatchell placed one to the right side as well to put herself and A. Rivera in scoring position. With two outs, Sierra Ricci stepped up to the plate for Gordon, sending a liner through the right side to bring in the winning run and take the late-game win, 6-5.
