Scots Bring Down The Hammer Against John Carroll, 8-0

Gordon College Softball took the field at Hancock Park again this evening, to face the Blue Streaks of John Carroll University (JCU) where the Fighting Scots ended the game early, 8-0 after dominating offensively with 16 hits. Due to rain, the Fighting Scots were unable to get their second game in against the Alvernia Golden Wolves.

How It Happened
  • The Scots got on top early after Emily Peterson and Isabella Rivera got it rolling with back to back bunt singles. With runners at second and third, Lily Rivera stepped up to the plate to single up the middle, bringing home Peterson and I. Rivera to put the Scots on top, 2-0. Gordon added another run after Ami Rivera singled and L. Rivera came flying home on the throw to take a 3-0 edge after one.
  • In the top of the third, I. Rivera sent her first collegiate home run over the left field fence to widen the gap to four.
  • Two innings later, Arianna Ramsaran laced a single down the right field line moving L. Rivera to third base while collecting her 100th career hit as a Scot. Then, the Rivera sisters continued to work their magic as, A. Rivera doubled home older sister L. Rivera to add their fifth run of the game in the top of the fifth.
  • Gordon added three more run in the top of the sixth to lead by eight and end the game early after holding John Carroll scoreless in the bottom of the sixth.
  • Sierra Ricci went the distance for the blue and white, allowing only five hits while striking out three in six innings of work.
Beyond The Box Score
  • With three hits today, Arianna Ramsaran now has 101 career hits.
  • Isabella Rivera not only recorded her first career homer but is also the first Scot to hit a dinger this season.
  • Sierra Ricci picked up her second straight win from the circle.
  • Gordon has an off day tomorrow before returning to the field on Wednesday, March 9 to play Dominican and Penn State Altoona at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., respectively.
