Box Score Gordon College Women's Lacrosse took on the Bears of SUNY Potsdam in Hilton Head, South Carolina this afternoon where the Fighting Scots hit the winning goal in overtime to defeat the Bears in a thrilling 16-15 win.
Annabel Christenson anchored the defense, recording 12 saves in today's win.
Savannah Metz and
Gaby Roman scooped up five and four ground balls, respectively. Additionally,
Abigail Mansfield booked 10 draw controls.
How It Happened
- SUNY Potsdam drew first blood as Lindsey Laudie ripped in a shot just under three minutes in to take a 1-0 lead. However, Gordon came back firing as the Scots' Hailey Beling and Abigail Mansfield tag teamed a three goal effort for Gordon with Beling recording two goals while Mansfield tallied a goal and two assists during a three minute span. After trading shots, Gordon stayed on top, 5-3 after one.
- Similarly to the first, it was SUNY who began the scoring in the second as the Bears recorded three goals in the second to take the narrow 6-5 advantage at halftime.
- Coming out of the break, Gordon went to work, ripping a trio of shots within a three minute span to regain the lead, 8-6. However, the Bears answered back with five straight goals before Gordon closed out the third with a pair of goals to head into the fourth down, 11-10
- Mikayla Lecci got it started for Gordon as the freshman found the back of the net to tie it up at 11-all thanks to a free position shot just over a minute and a half into final quarter. Soon after, Beling put Gordon on top after a Mansfield helper. Down by two with 4:15 remaining in regulation, Gordon's Mansfield tallied her fifth of the game to cut it to one. Then, with 1:45 on the clock, Lecci put one past the keeper to send the game into overtime.
- Kaitlyn Mini was the hero in overtime as the rookie won it for the Scots, 16-15.
