After a four game Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) road stint, Gordon College Softball returned to their home diamond to host the University of New England (UNE) Nor'easters for a conference twin bill this afternoon. UNE took game one, 7-5, but the Fighting Scots got hot in game two to win by a score of 7-4.
Game One
- After the Scots capped off the top of the first inning with double play line drive from Lily Rivera at third base, the Scots took the momentum into the home half of the inning scoring a pair of runs to get out front early, 2-0. However, UNE got on the board in the third to lock it up at 2-all.
- In the bottom of the third, graduate student, Arianna Ramsaran launched a two-run blast over the left field fence to not only give the Scots the lead but also make her the Gordon College Softball Career Home Run Leader with 19.
- UNE got one back thanks to a three hit fourth inning before tacking on another three runs in the sixth to flip the script, 7-4. The Scots put together a rally in the bottom of the seventh but were only able to plate one more run, falling to the visitors, 7-5.
Game Two
- The Nor'easters took the early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Isabella Rivera quickly knotted it up as the freshman sent one out of the park to lead off the home half of the inning.
- It remained 1-1 until Emma DuBois belted a solo shot of her own to straight away center to double up the Nor'easters, 2-1. Two batters later, Ramsaran added to her home run record with her second long ball of the day, extending Gordon's lead to 3-1. UNE, however, wanted in on the home run action and made it a 3-2 ball game in the top of the fourth.
- With the bases loaded and one out, L. Rivera stepped up to the plate and launched a no doubter over the right center field center for a grand slam to widen the gap to 7-2 in favor of the Scots.
- UNE tacked on two more runs but it wasn't enough for the hot bats of Gordon, as the blue and white earned the three-run victory.
- All of the Scots' runs were scored by way of the long ball.
