Game Recap: Softball |

Scots Split Gritty Twin Bill With Golden Bears

After more than a week off, Gordon College Softball took the field again this afternoon as they hosted the Golden Bears of Western New England (WNE) for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) twin bill. In game one, the Fighting Scots came from behind to score five runs in the fifth to secure the 5-2 win before dropping game two after a nine inning battle, 2-4.

Game One
  • It was a scoreless pitcher's duel until the top of the fourth when WNE plated a pair of runs thanks to two hits and a Scot miscue to take the initial 2-0 lead.
  • However, that lead was quickly erased an inning later as the blue and white caught fire, ignited by a Mara Little single down the right field line followed by a nasty bunt from Emily Peterson right in front of the plate to advance Little to third. Then, still with nobody out, Isabella Rivera roped a single through the five-six gap to score Little and Peterson, knotting it up at 2-all. Pinch hitter Hannah Bouvier hit the fourth single of the inning, putting runners on the corners for the heart of the order. Lily Rivera, Arianna Ramsaran, and Ami Rivera passed the bat for three more one-baggers, giving Gordon the 5-2 edge.
  • WNE was only able to scatter a trio of hits off of right-hander Little in the circle for the remainder of the game as the Scots secured the three-run victory.
Game Two
  • The Golden Bears sought revenge early as Dina DiBlasio hit a solo shot in the top of the first to give her squad the early lead. The Scots came right back in the home half of the inning as I. Rivera led off with a single down the right field line before advancing to third on a bunt single off the bat of Little. WNE was able to help themselves out with a double play but I. Rivera came home to score and even the playing field up at 1-1.
  • Sierra Ricci followed Little's lead in game one as the sophomore limited the Golden Bear offense throughout the next seven innings to just three hits before WNE strung together a couple hits in the top of the ninth inning to go on top, 4-1.
  • Gordon kicked off their last at bats on a high note with an RBI single to center field to cut the deficit to two runs, however that was the closest the Scots would get as WNE took game two, 4-2.
Beyond The Box Score
  • After a complete game in game one, Mara Little has now finished a career high 11 games to date.
  • Isabella Rivera has now hit safely in four straight games and also recorded her fifth three-hit game of the season in game one.
  • The Fighting Scots travel to Dudley, Massachusetts tomorrow, Saturday, 23 to face the Nichols College Bison with a double header starting at 12 p.m.
