Scots Seek Run Rule Revenge Against Colonels In Game Two

Gordon College Softball invited the Curry College Colonels to their home field this afternoon for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) twin bill where the Fighting Scots fell to their guests after a neck and neck battle in the first, 1-2 before taking revenge in game two to come out with the overpowering 11-0 shutout win.

Game One
  • After holding the Colonels to just two hits in three ups, the Scots got on the board in the home half of the third thanks to a double smashed down the left field line off the hot bat of Lily Rivera to send home Emily Peterson. The Fighting Scots carried their momentum over to the field as Mara Little shut down all three batters, finishing off with a pair of strikeouts.
  • Both squads were unable to cross the plate until the top of the sixth when Curry broke it open with back to back singles to load the bases up before a Scot miscue brought the score to a tie, 1-1.
  • While the Fighting Scots were able to get two on in their next at bats, they were unable to pull ahead before the Colonels broke the standstill with a shot to left center to grab the go ahead run, 2-1 and lock in the win as the Scots were unable to take advantage of their final hacks.
Game Two
  • Starting pitcher Sierra Ricci only allowed one runner on the bases before the Scots busted out the bats, scoring two runs in their first inning at the plate to take a 2-0 advantage. After another quick inning in the field, Gordon kept on rolling, passing the bat to add six runs of damage topped off by a rocket of a homer from senior Emma Dubois (8-0).
  • In the third, the Fighting Scots tacked on three more runs off of five solid hits to take the dominant 11-0 lead before shutting down the Colonels in their remaining at bats to take the overpowering victory after five innings.
Beyond The Box Score
  • After a shutout win in game two, Sierra Ricci wrote her name down in the Gordon College record books with five season shutouts (previously held by Lydia Bristow since 2005)
  • Four different Scots smashed extra base hits in game two.
  • The Fighting Scots hit the diamond tomorrow Saturday, April 30 when they host Roger Williams for a doubleheader at noon in celebration of their senior Scots.
