Scots Take Two From Lancers In Non-Conference Matchup

Gordon College Softball took a short break from conference play this afternoon as they hosted the Worcester State University (WSU) Lancers for a doubleheader duel where the Fighting Scots swept their guests, 3-1 and 3-0.

Game One
  • The Lancers took advantage of their first ups after scoring first on a sacrifice bunt to grab their first and only lead of the game. However, Mara Little cut their scoring short as she struck out the next two batters to end the half inning.
  • In the bottom of the second, Little helped herself at the plate to bring home the Scots' first run of the day and tie it up at one. The Fighting Scots were able to keep the Lancers off the bases in the third before Gordon finally broke the draw when Karissa Hatchell flustered WSU with a hard hit ball to short to bring in two runs and take the 3-1 lead. Little held WSU to just one hit in each remaining inning, locking in the Scots' first win of the day, 3-1.
Game Two
  • Starting pitcher Sierra Ricci did her job in the circle from the beginning, striking out the side in the second and holding the Lancers to one hit in her first three innings of work. In the fourth, Gordon's Emily Peterson registered the first hit for the Scots after singling to short in hopes to get her squad rolling, however the Fighting Scots were unable to score until the next inning. In the fifth, Arianna Ramsaran stepped up to pinch hit and rocketed a single past the center fielder to drive home Emma Dubois and get the Scots on the board, 1-0.
  • The Fighting Scots stayed flawless in the field before tacking onto their advantage in the sixth thanks to an Ami Rivera double to gain a two-run edge. The next batter up, Lily Rivera hit her sister in after smacking one to right field (3-0).
  • In the final inning, WSU attempted to close the gap but were only able to muster up one hit before Ricci sat the remaining batters down to secure the sweep and shutout the Lancers, 3-0.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Sierra Ricci registered a season-high seven strikeouts.
  • Lily and Ami Rivera hold the first and second spot in the CCC for runs batted in with 22 and 20, respectively.
  • The Fighting Scots return to conference action this Friday, April 8 when they travel into Boston for a doubleheader against the Wentworth Leopards at 3:30 p.m.
