Scots Earn First CCC Win After Split With Seahawks

After a quick turn around, Gordon College Softball traveled to Newport, Rhode Island this morning for a two game conference matchup against the Seahawks of Salve Regina University where the Fighting Scots split with their hosts 0-2 in the first before winning the second matchup, 3-1.

Game One
  • Both squads were able to get on base in the first with a walk each, however, neither was able to cross the plate as both defenses showed to be solid in the field. After a scoreless first inning, Arianna Ramsaran registered the first hit of the game after singling up the middle, but it wasn't enough to get the Scots going as the inning was put to a halt shortly after. In the circle, Mara Little kept the Seahawks at bay, forcing a no-hitter until her fourth inning of work when Salve's Maddie Capetta got a bat on the ball to land herself on second. However, Little immediately shut down the Seahawks with a strikeout to end the inning and hold the game scoreless.
  • In the fifth, Drew Ceppetell kicked off Salve's two out rally with a base hit to put runners in scoring position. Next, Salve capitalized on a Scot miscue to score the first runs of the game and take the slight 2-0 edge. The Fighting Scots attempted to close the gap in their last two at bats when Little helped herself to a hit in the seventh to put runners on first and second with two outs, however, the Seahawks were able to finish the job and lock in the 2-0 win.
Game Two
  • After a six batter first inning, the Fighting Scots broke their scoreless streak early on when Emma Dubois launched a double to left center, scoring Ramsaran and Gabby Hunt to grab a 2-0 advantage in the second. However, Salve answered back in their next ups as they cut the deficit to one heading into the third, 1-2.
  • The Scots attempted to add to their edge in the next inning as Lily Rivera started Gordon off with a deep double to center, but the Seahawks continued to challenge the Fighting Scots defensively, keeping it a one-run game.
  • After a three-up three-down half inning, Dubois got the Scots rolling once again with a single ripped up the middle to move Karissa Hatchell to second with none down. Next, Sierra Ricci rattled the Seahawks with a hard hit ball to third, forcing a throwing error that the Scots took advantage of to lengthen their lead, 3-1. Ricci kept the Seahawks to just two hits in the remaining innings, ultimately securing the Scots' first conference win of the season, 3-1.
Beyond The Box Score
  • This marks the first time since 2013 that the Scots defeated Salve Regina at their home turf. Fun fact, in both games the Scots registered five hits and three runs.
  • The Fighting Scots return to their home field on Thursday, April 14 when they host the University of New England for a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
