Gish's Hat Trick Drives Scots To Dominant 7-0 W Over Terriers

Gordon College Women's Soccer kicked off their 2022 season under the lights tonight, hosting the Thomas College Terriers for a non-conference bout. In 90 minutes of action, the Fighting Scots roped a total of 31 shots, seven of which found the back of the net, while holding the Terriers to just one. Sofia Gish was on fire tonight, booking her first career hat trick while Ava Forbes-SmithSarah Sierzenga, Kristi Di Rico and Tia Fyden each added to the goal parade to take the 7-0 shutout win.

How It Happened
  • Gish got the Scots rolling early on with a goal just over five minutes into the game to grab an early 1-0 advantage. The senior doubled her tally at the 13:31 mark to lengthen Gordon's lead before freshman Forbes-Smith made it 3-0 heading into the second. 
  • The Fighting Scots continued to command the turf, as Gish completed her hat trick to bring the score to 4-0. Then, Gordon burst out with two more consecutive goals in a 31 second span before freshman Fyden ended the night with her first career goal to secure the 7-0 victory. 
Beyond The Box Score
  • Sofia Gish earned her first career hat trick in tonight's season opener. 
  • Freshmen Ava Forbes-Smith and Tia Fyden recorded their first goals as Scots while Rachel Mincone collected her first assist of her young collegiate career.
  • Rookie keeper Emily Bengtson booked her first save, shutting out the Terriers in the second half. 
  • The Fighting Scots return to the Brigham Athletic Complex on Saturday, September 3 when they face the Montclair Red Hawks at 1 p.m.
