Scots Dominate Panthers In Non-Conference Action

Gordon College Women's Soccer invited the Plymouth State University (PSU) Panthers to the Brigham Athletic Complex for a non-conference matchup this afternoon. After 90 minutes of action, the Fighting Scots earned their third win of the young season, 3-0. Kristi Di Rico got the Scots on the board before a pair of goals from the unstoppable Sofia Gish sealed the deal for Gordon.

How It Happened
  • Both squads battled back and forth for the first eleven and a half minutes of play with neither team getting a shot off until the Scots capitalized on their first shot opportunity as Di Rico finessed one past the Panthers' keeper thanks to a perfectly placed ball from Alexa Weindorf. With 12 seconds left in the first, the Scots attempted to extend their lead when Sophie Richardson launched a last second header off of a corner kick from Rachel Mincone but the ball was unable to find the back of the net as Gordon head into the break with a 1-0 edge.
  • 10:52 into the second half, senior Gish extended the Scots' lead after heading a beautiful cross from Sarah Sierzenga to bring the score to 2-0. The Panthers attempted to cut the deficit but the Fighting Scots continued to command the turf, as Gish tacked on another goal to her stat sheet thanks to a free kick placed in front of the net by McKenna Feller with 26:57 remaining in regulation. The Scots stayed solid on defense, allowing only two more shots off the Panthers' feet, ultimately shutting out PSU to lock in the 3-0 victory.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Sofia Gish has scored seven of the Scots' 13 goals so far this season while finding the back of the net at least once in every game.
  • The Fighting Scots are back in action on Tuesday, September 13 when they invite the Worcester State Lancers to their home turf for a 7 p.m. start.
