Gordon College Women's Volleyball traveled to Quincy tonight to face the Eastern Nazarene College (ENC) Lions. The Fighting Scots battled through all three sets, coming within two points of victory in each set before falling to the Lions, 0-3.
Annie Murphy led the Scots with nine kills followed by freshman
Hunter Anderson who booked eight, and
Valerie Nilan who contributed seven in the effort.
How It Happened
- The Fighting Scots made sure to get on the board first, grabbing a two-point lead before the Lions came back to tie it up. Gordon was able to regain the advantage (9-5) but an ENC timeout propelled the Lions to an eight-point run to flip the script, 9-13. But back to back kills from Emily Schneider and Kate Howe knotted it up at 13-all before ENC broke through once again (20-13). However, the Scots went on a streak of their own to lock the score up at 21-21. The squads battled back and forth for the remainder of the set until the Lions claimed the first set, 25-23.
- It was déjà vu as the Fighting Scots started off the second set with a 4-1 edge before the Lions got going to keep the neck and neck race alive (5-5). Both teams went point for point, fighting for the advantage until the Scots regained the three-point advantage, 23-20. However, a trio of kills along with a pair of aces from the Lions captured their second win, once again 25-23.
- In the third set, the Scots fought for every point as Gordon and ENC ping-ponged points once again until the Fighting Scots finally earned the highest lead in the set, 19-17. However in similar fashion as before, the Lions hung with the Scots, tying it up at 20 and 21. The Scots were able to pull ahead for the match-point advantage at 24-23 but ENC booked three kills in a row to secure the final set (26-24) and overall 3-0 win.
