Scots Open Up Conference Action With Scoreless Draw Against Top-Ranked Gulls

Gordon College Women's Soccer opened up Conference play this evening as they traveled to Beverly to square up against cross-town rivals, Endicott College Gulls. After 90 minutes of battle, the Fighting Scots and Gulls ended in a scoreless stalemate, 0-0.

How It Happened
  • The Scots attempted to get on the board early as Kendra Wentling laced one on goal but it was denied by the Gulls' keeper. The squads ping-ponged control until Endicott's Alexandria Dostie was able to get a shot off at the 31:57 mark but was blocked by the Scots' brick wall defense. With just over five minutes remaining in the half, the Gulls were able to get two more shots on net, but Gordon's Tori Paine stayed solid in net, refusing both balls that came her way to head into the second frame, 0-0.
  • Coming back from the half, the Fighting Scots tried to break the tie exactly three minutes into the second when senior striker Calla Ashley muscled one just over the net. 2:45 later, Taylor Talesnick followed her teammate up by doing the same but the Scots were unable to penetrate, keeping the game goalless. The Fighting Scots held Endicott shot less until the 73rd minute when the Gulls were able to get a shot in, missing left. With 3:37 ticks left on the clock, Endicott attempted to secure the game winner, but the Scots' defense was unstoppable, locking up the score at 0-0 at the end of regulation to give them their second tie of the young season.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Since 2002, the Scots have only shutout the Gulls four times (2022, 2021, 2013, 2002).
  • The Fighting Scots continue conference action exactly a week from today when they travel to Bristol, Rhode Island to face the Hawks of Roger Williams on Saturday, September 24 at 3 p.m.
