For their second consecutive Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) home contest of the week, Gordon College Women's Basketball battled against the Roger Williams University (RWU) Hawks on Kanas Court today where the Fighting Scots battled through four quarters but were clipped by the Hawks, 70-54.Â
The Scots' efforts were spearheaded by
Madison Wynbeek who already had a double-double at halftime (11 points and 11 boards), but finished with three steals, two blocks, 16 points and as many rebounds,
Ami Rivera had 13 points, while
Serianna Anderson added eight points and six rebounds.
The Hawks'
Katie Galligan had a game-high 18 points, while
Caroline Elie andÂ
Lizzy Stevenson each contributed 12 points.Â
How It Happened
- The Hawks got off to a hot start early as the visitors led 13-6 midway through the first quarter before taking a 29-13 advantage heading into the second frame.
- Despite Gordon matching their opponents with 11 points in the frame, RWU continued to widen the gap, leading by as many as 23 before the Scots were able to cut the deficit to 16 at the half (40-24).
- A. Rivera netted half of the Scots' tally in the third, making it a 13-point game with just over a minute remaining before RWU stayed on top, 55-38 going into the fourth.
- Gordon outscored the Hawks in the fourth, putting pressure on the Hawks on both ends of the court, but the visitors held on for a 70-54 victory over the Scots.Â
