Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Fighting Scots Advance To Semis With Gritty Victory Over UNE

The No. 4 Gordon College Fighting Scots Women's Soccer team took the pitch as they hosted the No. 5 University of New England Nor' easters in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Quarterfinals. The Fighting Scots took the lead in the second half, securing the victory on their home turf 1 - 0 Scots.

How It Happened
  • In the first half, it went back and forth, without neither team breaking through, however, the Nor' easters were able to get three shots more on goals than the Scots.
  • To begin the second frame, both squads came out firing away, but it was the blue and white who controlled the tempo. After a few aggressive attacks, Kristi DiRico was able to gain space and find the feet of Kendra Wentling who sent the ball passed the goalie and into the top right corner to put Gordon up, 1 - 0 in the 65th minute.
  • Gordon remained in control for much of the second half as the Fighting Scots secured the 1 - 0 win to advance in the postseason.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Emily Bengtson now has recorded over 70 saves on the season as well as seven shutouts.
  • Senior, Kendra Wentling, was able to score the game-winning goal, which also marked her first tally of the season.
  • The last time the Scots were in the Semifinals were in 2021, where they defeated the Endicott College Gulls on the road.
  • The Fighting Scots will travel to Springfield, Massachusetts as they compete against the No. 1 Western New England Golden Bears on November 1 at 2 p.m. for the CCC Semifinals.
