Gordon College Women's Basketball welcomed the Elms College Blazers to Kanas Court this evening for day one of the Gordon Classic. After four hard fought quarters, the Blazers were able to hold off the Fighting Scots, 89-85.
Gordon's
Sydney Noyes registered a double-double with 24 points and 14 rebounds,
Ami Rivera netted 19, while
Olivia Brown contributed 18 points.
For Elms,
Juliana Liebow had 26 points,
Jade Lewis added 19, while
Brianna Metellus chipped in 18 in the win.
How It Happened
- Through the first four minutes, the Scots and Blazers went shot for shot before the home team began to pull away and go on top 21-10 with 2:52 to go in the frame. Elms, however, was able to make it a one point game (26-25) to finish off the first.
- After the Blazers locked it up at 40-all with 3:01 to go in the half, the visitors closed out the quarter outscoring the blue and white 9-4 to hold a 49-44 lead at the break.
- In the third, Gordon found themselves down by 12, but A. Rivera put the team on her back, scoring 11 of the Scots' 25 in the third to tie it up at 69-69 heading into the final 10 minutes of regulation.
- The Scots and Blazers battled for each bucket in the fourth in the gritty duel. With 10 ticks left on the clock and Gordon down by five, Brown sank a three from behind the arc to make it a two-point game. However, the Blazers held on after making a pair from the charity stripe en route to the narrow win.
Beyond The Box Score
- Sydney Noyes had a career-night for the Scots, reaching career-highs in both points (24) and rebounds (14).
- Olivia Brown netted a career-high 18 points.Â
- Naomi Nicholson dished out a career-high nine assists.
- The Scots return to action tomorrow as they square off against the Dean College Bulldogs at 3 p.m.
